This was my hair flat ironed about eight months ago after a haircut. Add eight months worth of hair and some ear length layers and you have my hair now.
Every few years or so, I start all over from a fade. I just saw the cutest pic of this sister with about two or three inches of hair. She had a texturizer, but it made me miss my short hair again. I miss the old me, and I don’t know how much of that is tied up in my hair.
I haven’t cut my hair since 2002 and started letting it grow back in 2003. I haven’t cut more than two or three inches at a time since then. If I make it to 2010, that will be about the longest I’ve gone without a major haircut. I’ve done good.
To cut or not to cut, what say you?

well…sometimes others have said how after a haircut they feel like some weight has been lifted off their shoulders. change is not a bad idea at all, that said i have toyed with the idea, but dunno what to do beyond my locks, afro is to much work and i cant do anything else other than natural… nice hair by the way.
and hey, u were meant to give tips a while ago regarding natural hair etc. i think!
I was?? Well, thanks for the reminder!! I’ll try to get to it this week! I don’t know if I’ll feel any weight lifted off or not, but I do know I want a fresh look. Maybe I’ll experiment with henna first and see how that goes before I report my natural hair advice, and it may give me the new look I really want. Natural hair has so much versatility, but it can also be a lot of work.

how beautiful!! i love your long locks
BUT i’m also a fan of the start-from-scratch cut too, lol. it’s a wonderful change and since you’ve done it before, you at least know how it works for you. i cut all mine off right before graduation in 2003 and kept it short for awhile before i started letting it grow back again. i miss that shortness all the time. but i also like the versatility of length (NOT that i do anything with this mop of mine at all!).
that said, i’m the wrong person to ask LOL. i think your hair is gorgeous long and it’d be gorgeous short. part of me votes 60-40 (60% of me says cut it; 40% says keep it long). but i don’t know!!
You capture my problem in your other comment. I want it super short for the summer and long enough to keep me warm in the winter. Too bad it just doesn’t grow that fast. You know that the longer it is the more work it takes to maintain it. The toughest thing about cutting it short again is that looooonng in between stage classified as medium length. It presents quite a challenge for styling when you can’t even make a puff.
I really think experimenting with henna should keep me busy for a while. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll be forced to cut it anyway to get the henna out. I’ll post pics of my coloring progress.

p.s. natural hair IS a lot of work. that’s probably why the greater part of me is voting to cut it. sometimes i get tired of messing with this hair of mine. you’d have a lot more time on your hands with it cut super short again and short cuts are AWESOME for the summertime. but then again, i like it long too…i’m so indecisive.
