Why Should You Vote?

Someone asked me that yesterday. He said he knows it’s supposed to happen, but it doesn’t really matter. What’s your response?

I’ve got some traveling to do, so I’ll check back in a few.

  1. you should vote because whether you’re rep or dem, we should all take a stand for at least ONE issue, and support. things can’t happen if we don’t make them happen.

it’s hard though because (though i really try to stay away from political discussion) i’m not really democrat or republican. voting for either candidate right now doesn’t sit right with me because i’m not on either’s bandwagon. but that doesn’t mean i will abstain from voting altogether. we have to do something to help usher change.

tell me about your presentation yesterday!

The presentation was well received by the students, and I’m not sure if my colleagues really enjoyed or just said they did. Either way, I got through it, and am ready to do more. I love interactive public speaking. I put an audience at ease and I love the way they interact. I was groomed to be Oprah. Maybe it’s not too late!

Oh, I’m independent and cannot imagine not voting. I have vivid memories of stories and pictures from my uncle who helped democratize South Africa. He talked about how old, crippled people stood in line for hours just to cast a vote. The sacrifices made for us to do so also make me feel obligated, regardless of for whom I vote. My uncle is deceased now, and if no else, I owe him a debt of gratitude.

  2. I would like to be able to believe that my vote counts, though I know better. I vote anyway, but I always leave the polls feeling like I wasted my time. Especially after seeing that HBO movie Recount one too many times.

I don’t know if my vote counts (never seen the movie), but I know if I don’t cast it, it doesn’t count for sure. Glad you go to the polls anyway.

  3. ‘Cause most of the time it feels like you’re always having to choose between the lesser of two evils rather than the better of two excellent candidates. I also wish third party candidates got more airtime.

This may be true, but it just means that we all have to become more involved in grooming, supporting, and choosing the types of candidates we want to see who reflect our views. Our country is sooo diverse that we’ll never have a candidate on whom all agree, so the majority is the best for which we can hope.

  4. “the lesser of two evils” is right Pro. that’s exactly what i told someone about my feelings towards this coming election. not saying that you were expressing those feelings about this election - i don’t want to put words in your mouth! :-D

Jesus is the only candidate who could possibly be perfect, and he’s not running in this election, so the lesser…will always be the case. Even though Jesus runs for election in our hearts everyday, some folks still don’t see him as the best of all possibilities. I’m tired. Excuse me if that made no sense.
