Gift Ideas

Help me out. What is an ideal gift for a man with whom you are not intimate but really close friends?

I already have something I’ve made and something I’ve written, but I need a something I’ve bought to complete this very special gift. He is celebrating an extraordinary professional accomplishment, and I want something useful and personal. I think the first two cover personal.

I’ve narrowed my ideas down to the following based on our conversations :

-a dress shirt and tie
-a french-cut shirt, tie and/or cuff links
-polo or golf shirt(s)
-business card case.

Another option is to make something else. I’m extremely creative. He loves pictures, so I thought of making a movie out of some pictures I have of him, but I’m not sure I have enough to pull that off. We’ll see though. I actually have a picture of he and his male family members that I could get framed for his office. I don’t know. I just don’t know. We’ll do some more celebrating throughout the year in other ways, but for the actual day I just want to give him things that will mean something personal to him.

Feel free to post links, pictures, and suggest stores. I have roughly a week to make this happen, so ordering something may be out of the question. This is for the young man from “I Hope He Knows,” so this has to be special. I heart him mucho.

What are your favorite male gift ideas? What is the best gift you’ve ever received? Do guys appreciate flowers? Be good readers and please give me input, okay? OOOOOkay.

  1. I went all over looking for something for a dear friend who I am also not intimate with for his 30th 2 weeks ago, and I found the most beautiful leather wallet, I was as stunned…

If you know his size and taste in clothing shirts would be perfect, but like me who didn’t know, I went with something everyone needs. ( and unfortunately in that way I bought my own presie, 2 days later it was my birthday, and he responded by buying me one of those touristy wallets to hang round your waste, it makes me look touristy, but when I was in Geneva, it came in handy) anyway I digress, but the business card case sounds like an idea too.

I dunno about flowers, unless u know, if he personally likes them, to my knowledge, black man aren’t really the flower types

Making him something might be good, but its very difficult, unless u know him well enough…try and not come up with something too feminine, or what a women would necessarily go crazy over.

Unless u want it to be something tangible, he can keep. U could get a gift voucher, for a gold experience, cart racing, or any of those things man r crazy over. Or gadgets, man love their little toys, we might not understand it, as much as they don’t understand our obsession with shoes, but the relationship they have with gadgets is deep and it’s real.

I could go on, but depends on what u want to represent

GREAT ideas!!! I’ll axe the flowers, then. I do know his clothing size and his taste. Between you and Hostess, it looks like a shirt and some links may be the way to go. This is all of a sudden very simplified. Thanks, ladies!!

  2. Humh. You sure you don’t like-like this guy? You’re making stuff?? Writing stuff?? Do men even appreciate all that?? Are you giving him things you’d like someone to give YOU?? I don’t know. I have never met a man who’d appreciate a made gift from a ‘friend’*. I say to heck with all that, buy him some cuff links from Tiffany’s and be done.

*I made someone a Valentine’s Day card this year but we were dating because he’d had jokes about me being crafty. He didn’t believe it. I showed him…With a hand-made card.

You’re funny. Friend is what we call it these days…he’s definitely special. Mmm…Tiffany’s, huh? I guess I can order online and get expedited shipping. Thanks.

  3. It’s a little expensive, but give him a portable GPS device. They run these days anywhere from $150 to $200. I’ve just bought one, and I love it. I wished I’d gotten one at least a year ago. Your friend will also love it. Why? ‘Cause you know how us men hate to stop and ask for directions when we’re lost. LOL!!!

This may be the best idea yet. I couldn’t think of a gadget he doesn’t already have, but this would be a definite welcome addition. Thanks, Pro!!

  4. Hey, no problem. Glad I could help. I meant to say that the least expensive models run between $150 and $200. My model is the TomTom One.

If you really want to show him how special he is, throw in the $100 accessory that provides real time traffic alerts and prompts the GPS to offer an alternative route if it senses a traffic jam!!! I’m planning on buying that one, ‘cause you need it in the DMV!!

I mean, I get a kick out of listening to that chick Lisa Baden do a.m. traffic reports on WTOP-FM, but I need as many weapons in my commute arsenal as I can obtain!! LOL!!!

  5. Cuff links are a nice idea, but I think men prefer toys better. Shaper Image usually has interesting gadgets.

Confession: I am an awful gift giver.

Thank you much. I think I’ve decided to go with what I’ve made. I have to focus my energy on completing it. I hope I make it in time.
