The Best–TBA

There is a passage in the Bible where it says that David encouraged himself in the Lord. This was at one of the lowest points in his life. A man who praised him at first and presented himself as a friend was at this time chasing David and trying to kill him. David had run for cover in a cave and had an army of misfits for friends who were in distress, in debt, adn discontent. What a group of friends. At that point, David had to encourage himself. Sometimes, when there’s no one else around who is going to do it, that’s what has to be done.

So I was just sitting here being encouraged by the Holy Spirit–not the Earth spirit or Mother God or “the” Spirit, but the Holy One–and I am reminded that the best is yet to come. Eyes have not seen nor ears heard the things that God has prepared for those who love Him. As He said to the Prophet Joel, He will even restore the years that the cankerworm has stolen. Even areas in my life of decay have a chance to be resurrected and live again. How great is that?

And no, I’m not experiencing any major crisis, and neither am I in any type of depression. It’s just sometimes I begin to reflect on how good God is and I can’t help but be encouraged by that. I like to imagine that that’s how David felt–encouraged by his reflection on God’s goodness.

My momma used to say, “Good, better, best. Never let it rest, until your good is your better and your better is your best.” Oh, you’ve heard that before too?

Well, with all of life’s ups and downs, it’s good to know that around every corner, there is still a “best” that is yet to come.
